There is only one God, and that is Jehovah, the self-existent and eternal. The Creator of Heaven and earth. Man in his fallen state led by the devil has always tried to go against God the Almighty, and has thus created all sorts of other gods. Which are only the works of the hands of man.
God’s commandment is to have no other gods before Him. God cannot be worshipped along other gods. God cannot share His glory. He says of the idols, “You shall not make any graven image, or likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the waters beneath the Earth; you shall not bow down yourself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord your God am a jealous God.” (Deut:5:8-9)
Israel was chosen by God to know Him and make Him known to the rest of the whole world. The rest the world worshipped many other gods including creation. That’s why when in Egypt, the children of Israel were warned against worshipping the gods of Egypt. They were also warned against worshipping the gods of the heathen nations that they would find in the Promised Land.
God the Almighty demonstrated His Power and Might over all the other gods of all the other nations by how He led Israel. As long as Israel obeyed Him, they would never be defeated by any nation. The same applies to the believers today, as long as we live in obedience to God, nothing can be able to defeat us, be it the devil and all his wicked minions, and sin can never have dominion over us as long as we are in Jesus Christ.
When the king of Assyria came against the children of Israel, he through his servants said, “Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the Lord will deliver us. Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?” (Isaiah:36:18-20)
King Sennacherib attributed his successes to his gods. He had defeated so many nations and became so proud and full of himself, or rather of his gods! He therefore thought that his gods could defeat the Lord God Almighty whom the children of Israel under Hezekiah worshipped. He equated the God of Israel to the other gods of the nations he had defeated. He blasphemed the Lord God Almighty. He thought Judah wouldn’t be any different. How wrong he was!!!
Sennacherib forgot that all he had been able to achieve was by God’s permission and help. Sennacherib was being used as God’s instrument. He attributed his successes to his gods and his own ability.
God would show Sennacherib Who He is and What He can do. He said concerning the king of Assyria, ” he shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. By the way that he came came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, says the Lord. For I will defend this city for My own sake, and for My servant David’s sake.” (Isaiah:37:33-35)
God would show Sennacherib that he and his gods were so useless and powerless. He would show them Who is in Charge. He showed them to Whom belongs All the Power.
Shortly after, this happened; Isaiah:37:36-38> The angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses. So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh. And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his God, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
That was the fate of he who thought himself as invincible as to boast against the Lord God Almighty. Nisroch his god could not save him, neither could his gods defeat the God of Israel.
It’s the same with all the other gods. Everything else that is worshipped be it mary, buddha, mohammad, the sun, moon etc, they are all useless and powerless before the Lord God Almighty. Whoever worships anything else apart from the Lord God Almighty through Jesus Christ, it/they become/s their idol.
There is only one Way to God and that is Jesus Christ. He who died on the Cross to redeem all mankind everywhere is the only way to the Father. All the other ways lead to eternal damnation.
John:14:6-7>Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me. If you had known Me [had learned to recognize Me], you would also have known My Father. From now on, you know Him and have seen Him.
We cannot know God unless we know Jesus Christ. Unless we understand Who Jesus is and What He has done, we can never get to know God.
John:3:16-17> For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting Life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
Jesus Christ is the only Salvation for the world, there is no other. He is Salvation only through the Cross. Therefore, the Cross must ever be the object of our Faith.
Turn from all the other powerless gods to the Lord God Almighty through Jesus Christ. Believe in Jesus Alone who is the Way to the Father.
